Coshocton isn’t a food town, and that’s exactly why you should eat here. You’ll find a winery serving the best burger in the county and a tavern pouring cold drafts next to a pretzel the size of a hubcap.

The range runs from wagyu cheeks at 63 Corks to a prime rib burger at Central Station, and I’ve verified both personally. One place keeps a taxidermied alligator by the fish fry.

That’s not a metaphor. So skip the chain drive-thru and read the list.

Highlights
Thursday burger specials
Cold drinks, attentive staff
Amazing pretzels, beer cheese
Comfortable outdoor seating
Worth the journey

Huck's Tavern is a journey, but the reward is a cold drink and a pretzel the size of your head. Thursday's burger special draws a crowd, and rightly so. The staff remembers your name, or at least pretends to, which counts for something. The beer cheese is dangerously good. I sat outside, watched the traffic, and felt a rare sense of contentment. It's not fancy. It doesn't try to be. It just works. If you're in Coshocton and hungry, this is your stop. Bring cash, or don't. They're flexible.

Highlights
Fantastic prices, great drinks
Larry, incredible bartender
Smooth, comfortable environment
Twelve rare liquor varieties
Stayed until close

Pod & Goggles is a bar that doesn't shout. It whispers, and then hands you a drink that knocks you sideways. Larry is the reason people come back. He remembers your order, your story, and your tolerance. The prices are fair, the environment smooth, and the twelve rare liquors on the shelf are a museum you can drink. I stayed until close, which I rarely do. The conversation was better than the alcohol, and the alcohol was excellent. If you want a quiet night with a great pour, this is the place.

Highlights
Friendly, knowledgeable staff
Consistently good food
Top-tier A++ quality
Always worth a visit

The Elks Lodge is not a secret, and it shouldn't be. The food is consistently good, which in this town is a miracle. The staff knows their menu and their members. I had a meal that was, objectively, A++ quality. No gimmicks, no fusion. Just solid cooking and a welcoming room. It's the kind of place you visit and wonder why you don't come more often. The answer is usually that you're lazy. Don't be. Go. Eat. Thank me later.

Highlights
Steak tips and walleye
Personal, helpful owner
Alligator centerpiece inside
Outdoor seating available
Beer on tap

The Clover Key has a alligator centerpiece, which is odd, but it works. The steak tips are cooked right, and the walleye is fresh. The owner is personal, almost to a fault, but he means well. Outdoor seating is a bonus, and the beer on tap is cold. I didn't know I needed to see an alligator while eating fish, but apparently I did. It's a quirky spot, but the food is serious. Go for the fish, stay for the reptile.

Outstanding wine and slushies
Phenomenal baked brie plate
Excellent service, very clean
Live music, even January
Best burger, surprisingly good

Killing Tree Winery is a winery, but the burger is the real star. I was skeptical, then I took a bite. It's the best burger I've had in a long time, and I'm not sure why it's here. The wine is good, the slushies are better, and the baked brie plate is phenomenal. Service is excellent, and the place is clean. There was live music in January, which is either commitment or madness. Either way, it works. Go for the wine, stay for the burger.

Highlights
Real leather made onsite
Reasonably priced quality goods
Repairs done with gratitude
Unique finds like fly swatters

River Ridge Leather is a shop, not a restaurant, but it's worth your time. Real leather, made on site. The prices are fair, which is rare for handcrafted goods. I bought a wallet and a fly swatter, because why not? The owner does repairs with gratitude, which is a dying art. The smell of leather hits you as you walk in. It's honest work. If you need a belt, a bag, or a conversation about hide quality, this is the place.

Highlights
Pride in artifact care
Ethical repatriation stance
Interactive display opportunities
Quick, enriching visit

The Johnson-Humrickhouse Museum is a quick stop, but it's a good one. The staff takes pride in artifact care, and it shows. They have an ethical stance on repatriation, which is more than most institutions can say. I liked the interactive displays. You can touch things, which is rare in a museum. It's not a day-long affair, but it's an enriching hour. If you're in Roscoe Village, wander in. You'll learn something.

The Roscoe Boutique Motel

The Roscoe Boutique Motel
Highlights
Cozy rooms, stocked showers
Safe, clean, friendly owner
Close to Roscoe Village
Ideal for solo women travelers
Personal touches, fair price

The Roscoe Boutique Motel is a small place with big charms. Rooms are cozy, and the showers are stocked with actual soap, not that hotel garbage. The owner is friendly and safety-conscious. I felt safe as a solo woman, which is not something I say lightly. It's close to Roscoe Village, so you can walk to the shops. The price is fair, and the personal touches make it feel like a home. I slept better than I have in months.

Highlights
Huge vegetable and pumpkin display
Antique tractors and model trains
Operating railroad interlocking machine
Great rodeo with good bulls

The Coshocton County Fairgrounds is a place of wonder. The vegetable display is massive, and the pumpkins are absurd. Antique tractors line the hall, and model trains run in circles. There's an operating railroad interlocking machine, which is a niche interest, but I loved it. The rodeo is real, with actual bulls that have no intention of being ridden. It's loud, dusty, and glorious. If you're in town during the fair, go. You'll smell the hay before you see the entrance.

Saturday: 4:30 PM–9 PM
Highlights
Wagyu cheeks, smoked potatoes
Crisp duck, sweet potatoes
Innovative, metropolitan-style dining
Extensive, curated wine list
Reservations strongly recommended

63 Corks is the closest thing to metropolitan dining in this county. The wagyu cheeks are tender, and the smoked potatoes are a revelation. The duck is crisp, and the sweet potatoes are a perfect side. The wine list is extensive, and the staff knows their stuff. Reservations are not a suggestion; they're a requirement. I made one, and I'm glad I did. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny. If you want a date night that impresses, this is it.

Highlights
Stunning in winter snow
Great coffee and food
Interesting local history museum
Onsite vendors making products
Easy walking between shops

Roscoe Village Shops in winter is a postcard come to life. Snow on the roofs, quiet streets, and the smell of coffee. The coffee is good, and the food is better. The local history museum is small but interesting, and onsite vendors are actually making things, not just selling souvenirs. The shops are close together, so you can wander without exhausting yourself. I bought a candle, a book, and a sandwich. The sandwich was the highlight.

Highlights
Prime rib burger reigns supreme
Quick service, friendly staff
Fish tacos packed with flavor
Deep-fried peppers worth trying

Central Station - Steak And Ale is a name that promises a lot, and it delivers. The prime rib burger is the best thing on the menu, and I say that after trying the fish tacos. The tacos are packed with flavor, but the burger reigns supreme. Service is quick, and the staff is friendly. The deep-fried peppers are a risky order, but they pay off. It's not fancy, but it doesn't need to be. I left full, happy, and planning my next visit.
